Between Here and There
We rented an empty space in St Louis, one of many. I watched the new construction progress near work and school. At night light shone through plastic draped over the beams and cast shadows. It's state, temporary and unintendedly beautiful. From inside the gallery I admired scars patched with quickcrete and rusting copper embedded in the floor. These drawings, arranged within the installation the evidence of beams that once held the ceilings and hooks that would hold objects from the ceilings, and outside, the weathered wooden fence and stairs of a neighbor. Drawing from these two places the work Between Here and There considers the textures and materials we notice and the precarious conditions that have built our spaces.
